City Citation - Courtesy of an Aristocrat

I spent my evening after work yesterday (9/23) cleaning up and disposing of some brush I had cleared out from my property and placed at the front of my driveway. After cleaning everything up I went to my mailbox and had a letter from the City of Gladstone in there. To my dismay upon opening, I was cited for violating a city ordinance for having “Garbage and/or clutter on property”. The citation was dated 9/21 and postmarked 9/22.

The “clutter” that was my brush from pruning trees had only been on my driveway for a week. Plus, it was obvious that this was recently done as the brush was still green, which, also in its obviousness, shows that I’m actually taking care of my property and making it look nicer!!!

I have spoken with the man at the helm of Gladstone’s city ordinance enforcement before for a previous citation when I was doing a bathroom remodel and had placed the debris outside of my house for cleanup on the final day of remodeling. There’s no doubt in my mind that this man had no quarrel with me and, indeed, knew that I was a great resident to have in this previously dilapidated, eye-sore of a property turned pleasant, middle-class casa. After much deliberation and prodding I had found that he was requested by a neighboring resident to cite me for, technically, disrupting their neighborhood image for a couple of days.

Well… I knew who it was immediately. Because to my left of my property is a very nice, single mother who is caring to everyone, yet would easily tell me if she had a problem and to the right of my property is a family of 4 that I would consider to be good friends of mine. The only neighbor I have that could have made this instigation was across the street from me in their luxury home with their Mercedez-Benz’, Volvo’s and BMW’s who have never taken the time out of their day to ever even say “Hi!” to me in my two years of residence.

I have found through research of other neighbors that these ‘other people’ are of a KC dynasty known as the Aristocrat’s of Kansas City’s Aristocrat Motors where only the most luxurious of luxury vehicles are sold. It is only synonymous and ironic to not only be named Aristocrat or be of the same family, but carry the snobbishness that is stereotypical of that same name that they feel the necessity to call city enforcement to fight their ‘battles’, if that’s what we want to call it.

If you have a problem with someone – SAY IT!

If you’re a neighbor – BE NEIGHBORLY!
