From what I hear Audi makes awesome cars. I have never driven one and they are a bit pricey for my blood. Still the R8 is a very attractive sports car. The overall Audi line of German luxury cars are middle of the road styled vehicles. They don’t go too wild in any direction. When I say that I mean they don’t have severely masculine lines, nor are they rounded off. Whether you like that or not there something to be said for a car that can be driven for years without looking dated. Audi has successfully done that with its entire line of cars. There is only one negative thing I would say about Audi… the “signature lights” need to go!
Now before you bash me, and I have been told by a bunch people I am crazy for not liking the small lights that outline the headlights, I have a reason for not liking the look. The lights themselves are not unattractive. The lights are a distraction, but that is still not the offense. The lights are gimmicky, just like any other signature look by any other car company. Cars are not like clothes and gimmicky, “signature” looks are faddish and pass very quickly. Since people don’t change cars like outfits signature looks on vehicles don’t sell beyond the very hottest of moments when the fad is a first and a new thing. After a period, people get tired of it and car companies have to either come up with a new “hot” thing or risk turning off some buyers. When you push too hard to define and distinguish yourself, you can become detached from customers by becoming too individualized, and at the same time unoriginal. I hope Audi hasn’t made this same mistake. I guess time and the next few years will tell.
